Australian Open Research Data Showcase & PetaJakarta Collaborative Data Sharing Project

In the new library structure at my place of work I am in  the Research Team.  I am becoming exposed and familiar with a widening range of concepts.  As part of this exploration I am trying to follow via twitter some more research based champions and conferences.  Yesterday I stumbled across via twitter the Australian Open Research Data Showcase hosted by the Australian National Data Service #auopendata which one of my bosses was attending and tweeting from.  There were a number of really interesting links and discussion coming out of the showcase.  One page overviews Open Data Collections including many of the Universities in Australia

One project’s youtube I watch from University of Wollongong featured Dr. Tomas Holderness @iHolderness and the PetaJakarta Collaborative Data Sharing Project
demonstrating that through using data collection via social media in Jakata they were more able to determine flooding patterns than never before  The project is outline here too  I find it quite fascinating to see a real world data application for social media results and interaction.
